GENAILLE (Robert). Painting in the Former Netherlands: From - Lot 117
GENAILLE (Robert). Painting in the Former Netherlands: From Van Eyck to Bruegel. Paris, Éditions Pierre Tisné, “Pictura” series, [circa 1950]. Large quarto, publisher’s color-illustrated cardboard binding. An important overview by Robert Genaille devoted to painting in the former Netherlands, from the great masters of the 15th century to Pieter Bruegel the Elder. The author traces the evolution of the Flemish and Dutch schools through Van Eyck, Rogier de la Pasture, Bosch, Lucas of Leiden, and the artists of the Northern Renaissance, up to the emergence of Bruegel. The book is particularly richly illustrated with black-and-white reproductions and numerous color plates, including full-page details. Beautifully edited by Pierre Tisné. Illustrated green cloth binding with gilt decoration and titles. Water stains and soiling on the cloth, more pronounced on the back cover; a few marginal water stains inside.
