FIOCCO (Giuseppe). Giovanni Bellini. - Lot 104
FIOCCO (Giuseppe). Giovanni Bellini. Paris, Librairie Plon, n.d. [mid-20th century]. Large quarto, publisher’s hardcover with illustrated dust jacket. A major monograph devoted to Giovanni Bellini (c. 1430–1516), one of the leading figures of the Venetian Renaissance. Text by Giuseppe Fiocco. The volume is richly illustrated with 48 color plates and 45 black-and-white plates, reproducing the master’s religious paintings, portraits, and compositions. Among the works reproduced are notably the Portrait of Joerg Fugger, the Alzano Madonna housed at the Accademia Carrara in Bergamo, and several famous Madonnas and Childs. A beautiful, large-format publication that allows readers to appreciate the chromatic quality of Bellini’s work and his essential role in the development of Venetian Renaissance painting. The dust jacket is heavily rubbed and battered, with significant tears and losses along the edges, particularly at the top and bottom and at the corners; the cardboard binding and interior are in generally good condition.
