DÜRER (Albert). Albert Dürer’s Travel Journal in the Former - Lot 94
DÜRER (Albert). Albert Dürer’s Travel Journal in the Former Netherlands, 1520–1521. Brussels, La Connaissance S.A., 1970. Large quarto, publisher’s cardboard binding with an illustrated dust jacket. Translated and annotated by J.-A. Goris and G. Marlier. Accompanied by the sketchbook executed in silverpoint and illustrated with paintings and drawings created during the journey. Edition published with the notation “Exclusivité Weber.” A fine French edition of the famous journal kept by Albrecht Dürer during his trip to the Netherlands in 1520–1521, an essential document detailing the painter’s travels, encounters, expenses, and artistic activities during his stay. The volume combines the text of the journal with a substantial collection of documentary and iconographic material: portraits, silverpoint drawings, paintings, and studies created during the journey. Numerous black-and-white and color illustrations, some full-page. Dust jacket is worn, with foxing, small tears at the top, and a tear at the bottom of the back cover; the book itself is in good condition.
