From Cézanne to Matisse: Masterpieces from the Barnes Founda - Lot 74
From Cézanne to Matisse: Masterpieces from the Barnes Foundation. Paris: Gallimard / Electa – Réunion des Musées Nationaux, 1993. Large quarto, paperback, with a color illustrated cover based on a work by Georges Seurat. An important catalog published to mark the exceptional exhibition in France of a collection of masterpieces from the Barnes Foundation, housed in Merion, near Philadelphia. The collection assembled by Albert C. Barnes (1872–1951) brings together a major body of modern painting, particularly rich in works by Cézanne, Renoir, Matisse, Seurat, Van Gogh, and the leading French masters of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Abundant color illustrations. Texts and descriptions by several French and American art historians. Catalog of a particularly significant exhibition, as many of the Foundation’s works had rarely left Merion at that time. Some scuffing and signs of wear on the cover; interior in good condition.
