COPPIER (André-Charles). Rembrandt’s Authentic Etchings. An - Lot 70
COPPIER (André-Charles). Rembrandt’s Authentic Etchings. An Album of Etching Reproductions. Paris, Firmin-Didot et Cie, [early 20th century]. Large folio in loose sheets, in the publisher’s printed slipcase. An important iconographic album devoted to Rembrandt’s engraved works, comprising numerous plates reproducing his etchings, classified and accompanied by their bibliographic references. The plates feature portraits, figures, religious scenes, and landscapes, with cross-references to the principal catalogs raisonné of his engraved works. This album constitutes the illustrated documentary section of André-Charles Coppier’s study on the authenticity of Rembrandt’s etchings and their classification. Numerous reproductions in heliogravure or photomechanical processes, with several per plate on certain sheets. The folder is heavily worn, with tears, missing sections, and old repairs; some foxing and signs of wear; the plates are generally well preserved.
