CLAESSENS (Bob) & ROUSSEAU (Jeanne). Our Bruegel. - Lot 64
CLAESSENS (Bob) & ROUSSEAU (Jeanne). Our Bruegel. Antwerp, Fonds Mercator, 1969. Large quarto, publisher’s cloth binding, front cover adorned with a gilded portrait of Bruegel, with an illustrated dust jacket. A major monograph on Pieter Bruegel the Elder, by Bob Claessens and Jeanne Rousseau. The book situates the Flemish master’s work within his century and offers a richly illustrated study of his paintings, drawings, and engravings. Numerous full-page color reproductions, including *The Ascent to Calvary* from the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna and *The World Turned Upside Down* (*Flemish Proverbs*) from Berlin. A particularly well-crafted edition from the Fonds Mercator, characteristic of the major art monographs published by the institution beginning in the 1960s: extensive iconography, color reproductions, and a luxurious presentation. The binding is well-preserved. The dust jacket has a few tears and small losses, particularly at the top and bottom edges and corners; the interior is in good condition.
