VILLEMER — CLÉRICE (Charles) - Lot 300
VILLEMER — CLÉRICE (Charles) The Death of the Franc-Tireur. Memories of 1870–1871. Paris, Bassereau, publisher, 240 rue Saint-Martin, [late 19th century]. A patriotic story in broadsheet form, by Villemer, narrated by Mr. Dumaine of the Théâtre de la Porte Saint-Martin. Spectacular color lithographed cover signed by Ch. Clérice, depicting a French franc-tireur hanging from a tree and surrounded by German soldiers. The four-page story recounts the resistance of a franc-tireur during the 1870–1871 war and his execution by Saxon troops. Catalog number B. 914. On the reverse, a catalog of Villemer’s *Récits patriotiques* published by Bassereau. A fine copy despite a few creases, foxing, and small marginal tears.
