RESTAURATION — DECORATION OF THE LILY Letter granting the Fleur de Lys to a former captain of the National Guard. Paris, September 1, 1814. Handwritten letter on “Decoration of the Lily” letterhead, No. 7430. The recipient, a former captain and commander of the National Guard, is informed that: “the King has deigned to grant you the Fleur de Lys; you are therefore authorized to wear it.” Document signed on behalf of the King’s First Chamberlain, the Duke of Aumont, with a red administrative stamp. The Decoration of the Lily was created during the First Restoration to reward, in particular, members of the National Guard who had demonstrated their loyalty to the Bourbons.
