Surgery Performed on Guillaume - Lot 248
Surgery Performed on Guillaume GALTIMAN. — SURGERY PERFORMED ON GUILLAUME, DURING WHICH IT WAS DETERMINED THAT HE HAD THE “DEVIL IN HIS BODY.” Paris, Saillant éditeur, 5 & 10 rue du Croissant; Printed by Goulbeuf, circa 1870–1871. Colored lithograph depicting William I being cut open by a butcher and a veterinarian, who discover a diabolical figure inside his abdomen. The caption ironically announces his intention to “come to Paris to recover.” A scathing French propaganda caricature from the Franco-Prussian War. Colored lithograph. Scattered foxing and light soiling.
