New Political Calendar for 1872 [POLITICAL CARTOON]. — NEW POLITICAL CALENDAR FOR 1872. Paris, Mauger, Capart & Cie, publishers, 103 Rue Montmartre, [1871]. Large-scale color lithograph depicting a circular, anthropomorphic calendar designed like a political clock. The months are associated with the major events of the Franco-Prussian War, the Paris Commune, and the early days of the Third Republic: “War,” “Fall of the Throne,” “Republic,” “Presidency,” “Sevastopol,” “Proclamation of Martial Law,” “MacMahon,” etc. A spectacular composition dominated by the allegories of War and Peace and centered on a horned animal head. Colored lithograph. Old handwritten note in the upper margin. A few foxing spots, minor soiling, and creases; in good overall condition.
