THE LAST CARRIAGE (NOT STOLEN) KLENCK, Paul. The Last Carriage [sic] (Not Stolen). No. 48. Paris, on sale at Grognet, printer and publisher, 16 Rue des Écoles; distributed by Madre, bookseller, Rue du Croissant, [circa 1871]. A colored satirical lithograph depicting a hearse transformed into a political vehicle. The carriage bears, among other things, the inscriptions “Society of United Men, 1st Class,” “Free Ride,” and a reference to the Tuileries. Dialogue: “Stop! Stop! Coachman! Just long enough to establish my dynasty. — No! No! I’ve finally got you this time, and this time it’s for good.” Signed P. Klenck. Fading, creases, and small marginal tears.
