THE BEAUTIFUL ADOLPHINE - Lot 171
THE BEAUTIFUL ADOLPHINE KLENCK, Paul, attributed to. The Beautiful Adolphine. [Paris], [circa 1871]. A satirical black-and-white lithograph depicting Adolphe Thiers dressed as a woman, wearing a loose, ruffled dress and a bonnet. Below the image: “Of all the governments / She was the public whore / She lies—that is indisputable / President of the Republic.” Former handwritten note “Parody—Klenck” at the bottom of the sheet. A rare and particularly scathing caricature of Thiers. A few foxing spots and slight signs of wear.
