HADOL — “BAD COIN” HADOL (Paul). Bad coin. French Empire. Ten centimes. Paris, on sale at Duclaux, 21 Place du Château-d’Eau; consignment at Madre, 20 Rue du Croissant, [circa 1870–1871]. Black-and-white satirical lithograph depicting a ten-centime coin with a twisted design: the imperial eagle has been transformed into a caricature of Napoleon III, whose mustache forms the wings. Title: “Bad Coin.” Signed “Hadol” on the plate. A fine monetary caricature directed against the Second Empire, playing on both the concept of “bad money” and the fall of the imperial regime. Paper slightly browned, with minor creases and small marginal marks.
