DUEZ (Ernest-Ange) — PORTRAIT AND BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE - Lot 101
DUEZ (Ernest-Ange) — PORTRAIT AND BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE Ernest-Ange Duez. [Paris, Galerie contemporaine, littéraire, artistique, circa 1876–1884]. Two large sheets forming an illustrated biographical note dedicated to the painter Ernest-Ange Duez (1843–1896). The first page features, in the center, an original photographic portrait mounted onto the page, captioned “Cliché Godet.” The text traces the painter’s training and career, his time at the École des Beaux-Arts, and his relationships with the artists of his time. The second sheet continues the profile and includes several drawn reproductions of his works, notably from *La Lune de miel* and *Déjeuner à l’atelier*. A fine example of the art press illustrated with photographs in the final decades of the 19th century. Condition: heavily yellowed sheets with foxing; fragile edges with several tears and missing sections, particularly significant on the second sheet; the central photograph retains good contrast.
