Carnival of 1871. William’s Entry into Paris [BAROUSSE?]. — CARNIVAL OF 1871. WILLIAM’S ENTRY INTO PARIS. Paris, Lith. Barousse & Cie, 1871. Large satirical lithograph depicting the entry of William I into Paris in the form of a carnival procession. A float laden with Prussian soldiers, preceded by a team of grotesque figures, parades past rows of soldiers. The composition, dated “Feb. 19, 1871” in the stone, reimagines the announced entry of German troops into Paris as a carnival masquerade. Large black-and-white lithograph. Paper slightly browned, with a central fold and a few foxing spots; tears and small losses along the lower margin.
