11th CAVALRY REGIMENT Guillaume Dugase’s military discharge certificate. Kayserslautern, 30 Germinal, Year II of the Republic [April 19, 1794]. Large handwritten document on paper, titled “11th Cavalry Regiment,” bearing a large red wax seal. Certificate issued to citizen Guillaume Dugase, a native of the district of Saint-Pons, Hérault department, who enlisted as a cavalryman, attesting to his conduct and length of service. The text specifies that he was ill for part of the campaign and that he behaved as a “brave soldier and good republican.” Numerous officers’ signatures appear at the bottom of the document. On the reverse, a note of validation by the municipality and a red stamp. An important administrative record of the Revolutionary Army, drafted in the midst of the War of the First Coalition. Creases, old repairs on the reverse with adhesive tape, stains, small tears, and marginal losses.
