Illustrations form an essential part of the work: tall ships and vessels, the work of the crews, seascapes, underwater fauna, coastlines, and reefs. A beautiful photographic publication from the interwar period, part of the Firmin-Didot collection. Condition: fair. The cover is heavily scuffed and faded, with wear and small peripheral losses; the spine and corners are worn. Significant and widespread foxing, visible particularly on the title page and in the margins of the plates. A few creases and minor warping of the paper. Nevertheless, the copy is perfectly legible.
