Very abundant black-and-white and color photographs, maps. The BnF confirms this is the 1966 French edition published by Albin Michel, translated from German by Denise Van Moppès. A beautiful photographic book on 1960s China, produced by Swiss photographer Emil Schulthess. Its appeal goes beyond that of a mere travel book: architecture, landscapes, daily life, industry, mines, the population, and China’s economic transformations are documented through exceptionally meticulous photography. The large fold-out map traces the journeys undertaken for the book. Condition: good overall condition. Hardcover intact, with some scuffing and minor signs of wear; interior appears fresh based on the photographs.
