FRANCE-U.S. RELATIONS. — No. 67, October 1952. - Lot 244
FRANCE-U.S. RELATIONS. — No. 67, October 1952. Paris, Information Services of the Special Mission in France of the M.S.A. (Mutual Security Administration), October 1952. Quarto, paperback; black-and-white photographic cover with title in red and blue; approx. 64 pp.; numerous photographs, drawings, and documents; several fold-out illustrations, some in color. The journal *Rapports France-États-Unis* was a monthly publication launched in the context of the Marshall Plan and Franco-American cooperation. It appeared under this title from 1950 to June 1953, first under the auspices of the E.C.A., then of the Mutual Security Agency; 74 issues were published. This issue, No. 67 from October 1952, is well documented in the digitized collections from 1952. This issue is particularly representative of American communications in France at the start of the Cold War, combining economic, social, and cultural topics. Contents include: “Toulouse: An Old City, New Problems”; “The Glass House”; Paul-Louis Bret, “From Producer to Consumer”; “What Is Science Fiction?”; The Bilingual World; Clemenceau’s American Experience, etc. The photographs included in the issue feature, notably, a series titled “Images of Old America.” The cover features a photograph by P. Raffin showing a young American schoolboy from “Shape Village”; the caption explains that children of various nationalities attend school there together and learn both French and English simultaneously. The back cover is devoted to the French broadcasts of “Voice of America,” with an illustration by Bouwens. Condition: Showing signs of use. The cover is rubbed and quite worn, with creases, small tears, and missing pieces at the top and bottom edges and corners; the spine is rubbed. Some staining and signs of wear. The interior, however, is in good condition, with all inserts present.
