The first volume of the history of photography compiled by Hans-Michael Koetzle, covering nearly a century, from 1827 to 1926. Each chapter is structured around a major photograph, placed within its historical and aesthetic context and analyzed as a milestone in the medium’s evolution. The book begins with Nicéphore Niépce’s early photographic experiments and extends through to the avant-garde movements of the 1920s. Richly illustrated, it brings together some of the images that have become iconic in the history of photography and notably features the works of Daguerre, Nadar, Muybridge, Stieglitz, and August Sander. The photograph reproduced on the back cover is Sander’s famous *Young Peasants* (1914). Very good condition. Hardcover in good condition, interior fresh and clean. A few very slight signs of wear.
