In-12, paperback, black illustrated cover. First edition of this anthology, one of the theoretical volumes in the famous “Photo Poche” series. Texts selected and introduced by Michel Frizot and Françoise Ducros. The book brings together historical and critical texts devoted to photography and its uses, allowing readers to trace the evolution of perspectives on this new medium since its emergence in the 19th century. In particular, it explores what photography makes possible, what can be expected of it, and the aesthetic and intellectual transformations it has sparked. The anthology creates a dialogue between theoretical texts and photographic documents, featuring numerous black-and-white reproductions. Among these is a remarkable anonymous photograph titled *Baigneuses*, circa 1848–1855. Published by the National Center for Photography, with support from the Ministry of Culture and Communication. A good copy, despite some scuffing, small creases, and signs of wear on the cover.
