FANCHETTE (Jean). — My Name Is Sleep. Poems. Paris, Éditions Two Cities, [1977]. Narrow 8vo, paperback, softcover in pink printed in black. ISBN 2-86235-001-X. First edition of this poetry collection by Jean Fanchette (1932–1992), a Mauritian writer, poet, physician, and psychoanalyst based in Paris. Fanchette was notably awarded the Paul Valéry Prize for *Les Midis du sang* (1956), the Fénéon Prize for *Archipels* (1958), and the French Language Prize from the Académie française for his novel *Alpha du Centaure*. A rare copy bearing a signed autograph dedication by the author, dated Paris, December 12, 1977: “To Dominique, this landmark on my journey. Affectionately, J. F. Paris, December 12, 1977” It might be interesting to determine the recipient’s identity: if this “Dominique” is part of Fanchette’s literary circle, the provenance could significantly enhance the copy’s value. The list of the author’s works also lists *L’Île Dissidence* (poems 1952–1977) and his autobiography *Je… Qui ça?* as “forthcoming.” Condition: good copy. The cover is slightly faded and shows some minor scuffs and signs of wear; the interior is clean. There is a small handwritten note, “1977,” in pencil on the page with the dedicatory inscription.
