A beautiful iconographic study devoted to the erotic art and imagery of the first half of the 19th century, primarily during the Restoration and the July Monarchy. The illustrations, primarily erotic engravings and lithographs, come largely from the private collection of Hans-Jürgen Döpp. Above all, the book constitutes an important documentary corpus on clandestine or licentious imagery from the Romantic era: the relationship between literature and imagery, changing social mores, Saint-Simonism, prostitution, caricature, and depictions of sexuality. Condition: good overall condition. Interior appears fresh and the binding is sturdy, as shown in the photographs. Dust jacket present, with some scuffing and signs of wear, particularly at the corners and flaps. Very attractive overall appearance.
