Large quarto (approx. 32.5 × 25 cm), 115 pp., publisher’s hardcover with an illustrated photographic dust jacket. Numerous black-and-white photographs by Raymond Burnier, devoted primarily to the erotic sculpture of Hindu temples in medieval India. The book explores the relationships between eroticism, religious symbolism, and the Shaivite tradition, particularly through the sculptural complexes of Khajuraho and other major Indian shrines. Alain Daniélou’s official bibliography confirms the first publication by Buchet-Chastel in 1962. First edition from 1962. The book has had several publishing lives: it was reprinted and expanded in 1973 under the title *La Sculpture érotique hindoue*, then combined in 2002 with *Le Temple hindou*. This latter reprint included new illustrations. Condition: the book appears to be complete, with the interior in relatively good condition. The original dust jacket is present but very worn, with stains, scuffing, creases, tears, and small losses at the top and bottom edges and corners; wear is also visible along the edges. The board cover and book block appear to be in significantly better condition.
