It brings together the major series with which Atget, at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, built his immense photographic inventory of Paris: old streets and neighborhoods, buildings slated for demolition, staircases and interiors, shops and storefronts, small trades, vehicles, residents of the “fortifs,” fairgrounds, parks, and castles. The photographs you are showing are particularly representative: Rue Thouin on the day of its demolition (1898), Place Saint-André-des-Arts before demolition (1898), and Parisian mansions and staircases. The book also includes a self-portrait of Atget captured in the reflection of a shop window, dated 1902. Its documentary value is therefore significant: unlike a mere “Old Paris” photo album, it offers a fairly comprehensive overview of the work of one of the most influential photographers in the history of the medium. The original Taschen edition of this book was published in 2001, also in the “Icons” collection, under the title *Eugène Atget’s Paris*, with the same text by Andreas Krase and edited by Hans Christian Adam; it already runs to 190 pages. Very good overall condition. Hardcover well-preserved, with only minor signs of wear on the corners and caps; interior fresh and clean. No significant visible defects.
