VAUDOYER (Jean-Louis). — Images of France. Drypoint engravings by Charles Samson. Paris, Les Heures Claires, n.d. [circa 1951–1954]. In-8, loose-leaf, in a padded cover, with the publisher’s slipcase and case. First edition of Jean-Louis Vaudoyer’s journey through France, illustrated with 12 original drypoint engravings by Charles Samson, dedicated to various French sites and monuments: Nancy, Strasbourg, Amiens, Versailles, Azay-le-Rideau, Mont-Saint-Michel, the Calvary of Guimiliau, La Rochelle, Le Puy-en-Velay, Avignon, the Pont-du-Gard, and Menton. The bibliographic records found confirm this composition of 12 original drypoint engravings. The engravings were printed by Manuel Robbe; the book, published by Les Heures Claires, is part of a series of illustrated books dedicated to the regions and landscapes of France. This copy is preserved in its complete publisher’s slipcase, including a hardcover jacket and a case. However, the set shows fairly significant flaws: foxing on the cover, pinholes and stains on the slipcase, a large moisture stain on one edge of the slipcase, and wear on the ends.
