Fifth edition of this important collective work devoted to Brittany, constituting the first volume of the “Provinciales” series published by Éditions des Horizons de France. Printing was completed on May 30, 1949, in Strasbourg. The bibliographic collation confirms 184 pages and plates in black-and-white and color. The volume brings together four complementary studies: “Human Geography of Brittany” by Camille Vallaux; “History of Brittany” by Henri Waquet; “Intellectual and Literary Brittany” by Auguste Dupouy; and “Brittany and Art” by Charles Chassé. The illustrations are particularly rich. The BnF catalog entry attributes the illustrations to Mathurin Méheut, Géo-Fourrier, and Jean Lequime, and the cover to J. Ovens. This copy is preserved in its attractive, original illustrated paperback binding, which is particularly decorative, featuring a stylized map of Brittany printed in blue, red, and black. A good copy. Interior is clean; the cover is slightly worn, with a few small marks, scuffs, and minor flaws along the edges and spine.
