Small 8vo, paperback, embossed cover printed in red and black, 206 pp. First illustrated edition of this novel by the Tharaud brothers, winner of the Prix Goncourt in 1906. It is adorned with compositions by Maxime Dethomas, woodcuts by G. Aubert, featuring a color frontispiece and numerous illustrations within the text. The 1920 Mornay edition is well-cataloged by the BnF. Third volume of the “Les Beaux Livres” collection. Print run of 1,000 copies: 1 copy on old Japanese paper, 64 on Imperial Japanese paper, and 935 copies on Rives paper, plus 40 non-commercial copies. One of the 935 copies on Rives paper, no. 82. Copy preserved in its elegant publisher’s binding. Spine heavily faded and damaged at the top, with small tears and fragile paper; cover slightly browned and showing minor scuffs. Interior appears fresh.
