First edition of the French translation by Fanny W. Laparra, published in 1925 by Stock. The BnF lists this edition as having been published on the same date by the same publisher. The edition is adorned with an original etching by Robert Bonfils as a frontispiece and engraved headpieces accompanying the various sections of the narrative. Limited edition of 825 numbered copies, plus a few non-commercial copies: 25 on Imperial Japan paper, with a special insert and original etching; 50 on Dutch laid paper, also enriched; and 750 copies on Marais pure-fiber paper, numbered 76 through 825. One of the 750 copies on Marais pure-fiber paper, this one being No. 624. One of Stevenson’s most famous travelogues, an account of the trek he undertook in 1878 through the Cévennes with his donkey, Modestine. This 1925 edition is particularly sought after, as it is the first French translation of the text by Fanny W. Laparra. A fine paperback copy, with full margins, preserved in its original publisher’s dust jacket. A few foxing spots and small marks on the cover and spine, slight rubbing on the head and foot; interior fresh overall.
