Paris, Éditions d'Histoire et d'Art, Librairie Plon, “Les Beaux Textes Illustrés” series, 1934. 2 in-8 volumes, 378 pp. and 419 pp., illustrated with 21 heliogravure inserts, including frontispiece portraits of Stendhal and Fabrice del Dongo: 11 plates in the first volume and 10 in the second. The illustrations include works by Romantic artists. The collation of 378 + 419 pages and 11 + 10 plates corresponds exactly to this 1934 edition. A BEAUTIFUL COPY IN AN ELEGANT BLACK HALF-MOROCCO BINDING WITH CORNERS. Spine with four raised bands richly decorated with gilded panels, gilded fillets and fleurons, gilded title and volume number labels, and double gilded fillets on the covers; blue, black, and red marbled paper on the covers; original illustrated covers retained. This copy is particularly appealing due to its binding, which is highly decorative and skillfully executed. The two volumes form a harmonious set. Some normal wear on the binding, particularly on the corners and edges, with occasional minor imperfections on the marbled paper. Scattered foxing, sometimes quite pronounced in the margins and on a few leaves, but overall still in very good condition. The photographs show the complete volumes in their original covers.
