A substantial in-8 volume, with a publisher’s cloth binding decorated according to a design by Mario Prassinos, featuring an abstract black-and-pink pattern covering the front and back covers and the spine. Copy on Navarre alfa, no. 299. The colophon notes, in particular, 35 copies on pure-fiber vellum and 60 copies on Navarre alfa, followed by a January 1945 print run of 1,000 copies on Alfa Navarre, of which 960 were numbered from 1 to 960 and bound according to Mario Prassinos’s design. An interesting publisher’s binding characteristic of Prassinos’s designs for Gallimard, highly decorative and sought after more for its graphic design than for the bibliophilic rarity of the print run. Some foxing and soiling; the cloth is slightly faded and rubbed, particularly on the spine.
