REBOUX (Paul). — *Bamboulina*. Paris: Éditions Lapina, “Les Panathénées” series, Vol. III, 1926. In-8, 120 pp. and [2] ff., paperback, embossed cover printed in red and black, untrimmed. First edition, published in the fine “Les Panathénées” series, consisting entirely of previously unpublished works. It is illustrated by Charles Hallo with an etched portrait of the author as a frontispiece and 12 original woodcuts, including 6 as inserts and 6 within the text or as end-piece illustrations. It also includes facsimiles of pages autographed by Paul Reboux. The bibliography confirms this composition of the illustrations. One of 1,000 numbered copies on pure-rag Rives B.F.K. laid paper, this one being No. 979. The print run includes, at the top, a single copy on Imperial Japan paper with the originals, 19 copies on Old Japan paper, 50 on Imperial Japan paper, followed by the copies on Rives paper, to which the non-commercial copies are added. Uncut copy with full margins, preserved in its elegant publisher’s binding. Very fine overall condition; the cover is slightly faded with a few discreet signs of wear. The work, a satirical and exotic novel set in an imaginary African republic, features several passages devoted to the emergence of the jazz band and the European perception of Black culture in the 1920s. It is also the third volume of the *Panathénées* series, a collection now sought after primarily for its high-quality paper and illustrators. Carteret correctly lists *Bamboulina* among the twelve volumes of this collection.
