In-12 (approx. 19 × 12 cm), paperback, full-cover printed in black and blue, 254 pp., untrimmed. First edition of one of the major maritime novels by Édouard Peisson (1896–1963), a former merchant marine officer whose experience at sea informed the bulk of his work. The novel depicts the maiden voyage of the Étoile-des-Mers, an ocean liner racing at full speed across the Atlantic between Liverpool and New York. Fifth volume of the third series of the bibliophile collection “Pour mon plaisir” published by Bernard Grasset. Limited edition of 1,844 copies, including 8 copies on “Japon impérial” paper, 10 on “Auvergne,” 26 on Arches vellum, 50 on Lafuma pure-fiber vellum, and 1,750 copies on Alfax Navarre, of which 220 were reserved for the Lardanchet selections and 100 were press copies. One of the 1,650 numbered copies on Alfax Navarre paper, this one being No. 1357. Copy preserved in its original stitching with a filled cover, characteristic of the “Pour mon plaisir” collection. A fine copy, with fresh, untrimmed pages. The cover is well-preserved, with a few very slight marks and minor signs of wear; there is a small flaw at the bottom of the spine.
