FIRST EDITION, dedicated to Louis Barthou (1862–1934), statesman and bibliophile, accompanied by a study by René de Planhol and illustrated by Gaston Goor (1902–1977). The illustrations include, notably, a portrait of Charles Maurras as the frontispiece and several end-leaf illustrations. The BnF confirms the pagination of 218 pages, the size of 19 cm, and that this is the fourth volume in the collection. The print run is limited to 3,500 numbered copies, distributed as follows: 1 unique copy on antique Japanese paper; 17 on antique Japanese paper; 20 on Imperial Japanese paper; 66 on Madagascar paper; 260 on Rives vellum; and 3,136 on alfa paper. There is also a small, non-commercial print run on various types of paper. ONE OF THE 3,136 COPIES ON ALFA PAPER, THIS ONE NO. 1191. Printed on June 30, 1929, for Éditions du Capitole. The book offers an interesting insight into Louis Barthou and his passion for bibliophilia, which would give rise to one of the most remarkable French libraries of its time. After his death, his library was dispersed in several auctions. A PLEASANT COPY PRESERVED IN ITS ORIGINAL PAPERBACK BINDING, AS PUBLISHED. Cover slightly faded and dusty, with minor marks and normal wear; spine slightly creased with a slight weakness at the bottom. The interior is well-preserved overall. There is a small marginal tear on an insert page, with no loss of text and no damage to the illustration. Untrimmed copy.
