MAUPASSANT (Guy de). — *La Maison Tellier*. Paris: Albin Michel, publisher, [1930]. In-8, text illustrated with numerous compositions by René Lelong, woodcuts by G. Lemoine; black half-shagreen with corner pieces, spine with four raised bands, author’s name and title gilded, blue marbled paper covers, gilded head, covers not preserved. Contemporary binding. An illustrated edition featuring René Lelong’s famous illustrations created for the 1899 Ollendorff edition. The abundant illustrations, intimately interwoven with the text, were woodcut by Georges Lemoine. The original illustrated edition of 1899 featured 80 compositions by Lelong and was limited to 240 numbered copies, in addition to a few copies for contributors. This reprint, published by Albin Michel around 1930, retains the same set of illustrations; a paperback copy of this edition is described as having 286 pages and featuring Lelong’s illustrations engraved by Lemoine. A copy bound in the period, showing fairly significant wear: scuffing and chipping on the spine, raised bands, headband, half-bands, corners, and edges; the paper on the covers is scuffed. The interior is uniformly browned with some foxing. The binding is nevertheless sturdy.
