Complete edition of Stéphane Mallarmé’s Poems, including several unpublished poems. This expanded edition was published by the Nouvelle Revue Française beginning in 1913, supplementing the posthumous edition prepared by Mallarmé and published by Deman in 1899. Eighth edition, published in 1917 by Éditions de la Nouvelle Revue Française. The volume notably preserves the definitive order of the collection and Mallarmé’s major poems: “L’Azur,” “Brise marine,” “Les Fenêtres,” “Le vierge, le vivace et le bel aujourd’hui,” “Le Tombeau d’Edgar Poe,” etc. Older bibliographies correctly identify this edition of *Poésies* as the eighth edition. The printed colophon notes that 55 copies were printed separately from the first edition on Arches paper, re-set and numbered on the press. This note therefore refers to the first print run of the first edition and not to this copy of the eighth edition. A particularly desirable NRF binding, featuring a typographic cover with a double red-and-black border and the price of 3 fr. 50 preserved on the spine. Condition: a fine copy in its original binding. Cover is slightly faded with a few small marks and creases from use; spine is slightly wrinkled but complete, with no notable losses. Corners are slightly rounded. Interior is fresh and clean, on laid paper, with full margins and untrimmed. Very good overall condition for this fragile 1917 NRF cover.
