MAC ORLAN (Pierre). — Images of Paris. Drypoint engravings by Charles Samson. Paris, Les Heures Claires, [circa 1951–1953]. Quarto, loose-leaf, with a padded cover, publisher’s folder, and slipcase. A beautiful edition dedicated to Paris, illustrated with original drypoint engravings by Charles Samson, hand-colored, depicting various monuments, squares, and picturesque views of the capital. Copy No. 56, one of 100 hand-colored copies to which a set of black-and-white engravings was to be added, numbered from 13 to 112. The print run is limited to 312 numbered copies: 12 copies enhanced with an original drawing and a black-and-white suite; 100 copies, including this one, accompanied by a black-and-white suite; and 200 copies without the suite. Unfortunately, this copy is incomplete with regard to the black-and-white series listed in the colophon. A few scattered foxing spots. The publisher’s cover and slipcase are heavily pitted, stained, and discolored, with moisture stains and signs of wear. The color engravings, however, remain well-preserved overall.
