Part of the “Une œuvre, un portrait” collection, this edition is particularly interesting due to the collaboration between Joseph Kessel and Jean Cocteau. The frontispiece features a portrait of Kessel by Cocteau. Print run: 1,144 copies: 1,118 on imitation-vellum paper from the Papeteries de Navarre, including 118 not for sale and 1,000 numbered copies, and 26 on dyed old Japanese paper. Copy no. 420, one of the 1,000 numbered copies on vellum from the Papeteries de Navarre. Paperback, printed beige cover. Untrimmed copy. Quite numerous foxing spots, visible on the half-title page, the frontispiece, the title page, and throughout the text; cover slightly worn. Its bibliophilic appeal exceeds that of the Alain edition thanks to the original portrait of Cocteau, which lends this edition added charm.
