JACOUPY (Jacqueline). — *La Transhumance*. Preface by Maurice Constantin-Weyer. Paris: Librairie Stock, Delamain et Boutelleau, 1933. In-18 format, paperback, illustrated green-and-black embossed cover, untrimmed. First edition, fourth volume of the series “Les Livres de Nature illustrés,” published under the direction of Jacques Delamain. The book recounts the journey undertaken by Jacqueline Jacoupy with the transhumant herds, from the Vercors to the Camargue. A contemporary account specifies, in particular, that she followed the migration from Font-d’Urle to the Camargue. The book is illustrated with 35 photographic reproductions taken by the author, providing a remarkable documentary record of the herds, shepherds, stops along the way, and practices of transhumance in the early 1930s. The book’s bibliography confirms 138 pages and photographs by Jacqueline Jacoupy. One of 2,750 copies printed on Outhenin-Chalandre laid alfa paper, following only 22 numbered copies on Lafuma pure-fiber vellum and 5 non-commercial copies; 200 press copies were also printed. This copy is preserved in its attractive illustrated publisher’s cover, characteristic of the collection. A few scattered foxing spots, particularly on the title page; slight creases and minor wear on the headband and edges of the cover. Nevertheless, the book is well-preserved overall, with the photographic inserts in fine condition. An interesting ethnographic and photographic document devoted to traditional French transhumance.
