HUGO (Victor). *Les Feuilles d'automne*. *Les Chants du crépuscule*. Paris: Librairie Alphonse Lemerre, n.d. [late 19th–early 20th century]. Large 12mo, dark green half-morocco with corner pieces, spine with five raised bands richly decorated with gilt panels and fleurons, title and names of the two collections in gilt, double gilt fillets at the heads and corners, covers of polychrome marbled paper, gilt head, untrimmed. This edition brings together two of Victor Hugo’s major poetry collections: *Les Feuilles d’automne*, originally published in 1831–1832, and *Les Chants du crépuscule*, published in 1835. This combined edition was published by Alphonse Lemerre as early as 1875; copies of this edition contain approximately 322–324 pages. A very fine copy on laid paper, with wide margins and preserved untrimmed, in an elegant bibliophile binding. The binding is particularly well executed: dark morocco leather, with very elaborate gilt decoration on the spine and marbled endpapers in shades of wine red, green, and cream. Some minor scuffing from handling, but overall very decorative and well-preserved.
