GUIBERT (Louis). — Collection of Archaeological and Historical Notes on Limoges and the Limousin. Limoges and Paris, various publishers, 1882–1900. A substantial in-8 volume, red half-shagreen with corner pieces, spine with four raised bands, a dark red morocco title label bearing “Louis Guibert — Notices archéologiques,” gilt fillets, covers of polychrome marbled paper, gilt head. A significant compiled volume bringing together several studies by Louis Guibert (1840–1904), a historian and archaeologist from the Limousin region, devoted primarily to the archaeology, monuments, numismatics, and history of Limoges. Among the texts now identifiable from the photographs: — The Tomb of Cardinal de Mende at Saint-Martial in Limoges. Paris, H. Champion, 1882. Offprint from *Cabinet historique*, new series, 1882. This publication is properly listed among Guibert’s works from that year. — Historic Monuments. Report of the Commission tasked with reexamining the list of historic monuments and compiling a catalog of movable objects to which Articles 8 through 13 of the law of March 30, 1887, apply. Guibert is listed here as secretary of the commission responsible for cataloging the archaeological treasures of Haute-Vienne. — The Mint of Limoges. Limoges, Imprimerie-Librairie Limousine, Vve H. Ducourtieux, 1893. Excerpt from the 1893 Limousin Almanac. The copy bears an autograph dedication signed by Louis Guibert on the half-title page: “To Mr. René Fage,” which is a real bonus for the collection. The 1893 edition published by Ducourtieux is well documented bibliographically. — Old Drawings of Limoges Monuments. Limoges, Imprimerie et Librairie limousines, Vve H. Ducourtieux, 1900 [1899]. First edition. An illustrated work devoted to historical depictions and to the lost or altered monuments of Limoges. The BnF provides the following collation: 87 pp., 5 ff. of plates, and 1 fold-out plate, in-8. The volume also contains other essays by Guibert on the monumental heritage of the Haute-Vienne department, including his report on Historic Monuments, which appears at the beginning of the collection. A very interesting collection of scholarly works on the Limousin region compiled at the time, covering nearly twenty years of Guibert’s research. The compilation of these publications—several of which are offprints that are now rare when considered individually—is of greater interest than a mere collection of disparate pamphlets. Provenance: René Fage (1848–1929), a magistrate, historian, and archaeologist from Corrèze, with a signed autograph dedication by Louis Guibert on *La Monnaie de Limoges*. A later bookplate by Xavier Thibaut on the inside back cover. A few scattered foxing spots and discolorations; the binding is slightly rubbed along the raised bands, spine, and edges, but is sturdy. A fine copy of this remarkable collection of scholarship on the Limousin region.
