First edition, constituting the tenth volume of the “Les Panathénées” series. It is illustrated by Charles Jouas with original etchings, along with his initial letters and tailpieces, and a portrait of Georges Grappe by Achille Ouvré. The book is devoted to Le Sein, a former village situated on the banks of the Seine, and offers a historical and picturesque evocation of old Paris. The compositions by Jouas—an engraver particularly sought after for his architectural views of Paris—accompany the text in a highly detailed style characteristic of his work. One of the copies printed on Rives B.F.K. laid paper, this one being no. 198. The original etchings, initial letters, and endpieces were executed by Charles Jouas; the portrait of the author by Achille Ouvré. Printed on Lapina’s presses and in his workshops in Paris on March 25, 1927. A fine volume from the Panathénées collection, sought after both for its original illustrations and its Parisian subject matter. Condition: a fine paperback copy with full margins. The cover is slightly discolored with a few small marks and scattered foxing spots; the spine is intact but slightly faded. The interior is fresh overall, with well-preserved paper. The etchings appear to be in fine condition.
