GOSSET (Léon). — The Charm of Île-de-France. Drypoint engravings by Charles Samson. Paris, Les Heures Claires, [1955]. 2 in-4 volumes, in loose leaves, with padded covers, publisher’s folders and cases. An illustrated edition featuring numerous original drypoint engravings by Charles Samson, depicting the landscapes, monuments, and mansions of the Île-de-France region. Several compositions are delicately enhanced with color. Copy no. 121, one of 112 copies on Lana pure-thread vellum, to which a suite of engravings with notes has been added, numbered from 39 to 150. The print run is limited to 500 copies and comprises two volumes. The specific breakdown is as follows: 2 copies with an original drawing as a separate plate, three original sketches, and a set of engravings with annotations; 36 with an original drawing and the suite; 112 with the suite of engravings with annotations, including this copy; and 350 ordinary copies. The suite of drypoint engravings with annotations is present. A few scattered foxing spots and pinholes, visible on some leaves and plates, without significant damage to the compositions.
