First edition, published in 1919 to benefit the Association of Disabled Veterans and War Veterans of the Eastern Region. The colophon states: “April 12, MDCCCCXIX, the eve of Palm Sunday.” A rare patriotic pamphlet from Lorraine celebrating the return of the Iron Division after World War I. The long poem recounts the unit’s battles and campaigns, notably mentioning Morhange, Flainval, Rambétant, Vitrimont, Friscati, the Somme, Flanders, Passchendaele, and the battles of 1918. Georges Garnier was a prominent figure in the pre-war literary scene in Nancy, notably serving as director of the Couarail, the Lorraine Academy in Nancy. A valuable copy with an autographed dedication by the author. On the half-title page, a signed and dated autographed dedication: “To Louis Thirion, with warm regards, Georges Garnier 1919.” This dedication, made at the time of publication, adds significant value to this already rare booklet, which is deeply rooted in the literary and military history of Lorraine. Condition: a fine copy in its fragile original condition. The cover is slightly faded and dusty, with minor scuffing and small signs of wear along the edges; the interior is clean, with a few slight signs of age. Sturdy binding.
