In-12, red half-maroquin with corner pieces, ribbed spine, two green title labels, gold-stamped initials “H.T.” at the end, marbled paper covers. FIRST EDITION, it appears, of this collection of critical essays by René Doumic, future permanent secretary of the Académie française. The BnF does indeed list *Portraits d'écrivains* as having been published by Paul Delaplane in 1892. The copy is in a neat library binding but shows fairly significant foxing, particularly on the title page and the first few leaves. The binding is slightly rubbed.
