Large quarto, 133 pp., publisher’s unbleached cloth binding, facsimile of Daumier’s signature stamped in red on the front cover, with original color-illustrated dust jacket and transparent Rhodoid slipcase. An important monograph devoted to the depiction of doctors, patients, and medical practices in the satirical work of Honoré Daumier. The volume combines the study by Professor Henri Mondor—a surgeon, historian of medicine, and member of the Académie française—with the catalog raisonné compiled by Jean Adhémar, then chief curator of the Cabinet des Estampes. The illustrations include 48 full-page reproductions of Daumier’s lithographs, bringing together the famous medical caricatures published notably in *Le Charivari* and belonging to series such as *Les Bons Bourgeois*, *L’Imagination*, etc. Contemporary bibliographies accurately describe the work as a 134-page volume accompanied by 48 plates. The lithographs were transferred to stone and printed specifically for this edition, a process that faithfully reproduces the vigor of Daumier’s lithographic linework. The book thus serves as both an iconographic monograph and a true thematic catalog of his work. A BEAUTIFUL, COMPLETE COPY WITH ITS SPECTACULAR COLOR-ILLUSTRATED DUST JACKET AND ORIGINAL RHODOID, elements that are frequently missing or damaged in other copies encountered. The cloth binding and interior are in very fresh condition. There are a few slight signs of wear on the Rhodoid and the dust jacket, with no apparent significant damage.
