DAUDET (Alphonse). Les Femmes d'artistes. Paris, Alphonse Lemerre, 1878. In-12, paperback, [2] leaves, 177 pp., [1] leaf, original printed cover preserved. An original etching by André Gill as the frontispiece. Reprint of the first edition, published by the same publisher in 1874 with the notation “First Series.” The work subsequently underwent several reprints, notably in 1876, 1878, and 1884; this copy belongs to the 1878 printing. A collection of twelve short stories devoted to the married and romantic lives of artists, including notably *Madame Heurtebise*, *Le Credo de l’amour*, *La Transtévérine*, *Un ménage de chanteurs*, *La Bohême en famille*, and *La Veuve d’un grand homme*. This copy remains in paperback and untrimmed, a desirable condition for this edition. Dusty and discolored cover, foxing and stains, spine slightly worn; tear with a small loss in the lower right corner of the front cover, old adhesive repair. Interior appears well-preserved overall.
