First edition of this volume bringing together the fifth and sixth years of this valuable chronicle of musical life in Nancy, covering the 1901–1902 and 1902–1903 seasons. The author had previously published reviews of the seasons from 1897–1898 through 1900–1901. In it, René d’Avril reviews the concerts of the Nancy Conservatory as well as the numerous musical events held in the city and its surrounding region: subscription concerts, recitals, chamber music, private performances, and sacred music. He discusses performances of works by Bach, Beethoven, Berlioz, Saint-Saëns, César Franck, Fauré, Chausson, Dukas, and others, and highlights numerous performers active in Nancy at the turn of the century. Of particular interest for the musical history of Lorraine, the book notably contains a review of a concert given in Baccarat, in which René d’Avril mentions Louis Thirion, then professor of organ at the Nancy Conservatory, as well as Georges Jamar, Fernand Pollain, and other figures from the regional music scene. The volume concludes with several “Postlude” essays and a detailed schedule of events for the 1902–1903 season. Standard print run; the colophon indicates only 6 copies on handmade paper.
