A collection of poems by Paul Briquel (1877–1922), a poet, physician, and writer from Lorraine who was born in Lunéville. The first edition of *Soirs d'Automne* was published in Nancy in 1897; the work is among the author’s earliest collections and was noted as early as 1897 in the *Mercure de France*. This second edition, published the following year by the *Revue Lorraine*, is printed on Arches laid paper with an MBM watermark. The collection includes, among others, “L'Ombre des soirs pleurait,” “Remembrance d'amour,” “Amour d'antan,” “Missel,” “Feux follets,” “Rythmes vagues,” “Nuit de printemps,” “Nuit d'automne,” “Vieille église,” “Rêves d'amour,” and “L'Illusion.” A beautiful paperback copy, with full margins and largely uncut. The cover is slightly browned and faded, with a few small marks and minor scuffs along the edges; the interior is in very fresh condition. The laid paper is well preserved. This fragile late-19th-century poetry pamphlet is in particularly pleasing condition.
