In-8, paperback, illustrated color cover, 259 pp. A beautiful edition illustrated by Antoine Calbet with 31 color plates, including 6 full-page plates, 24 large plates within the text, and a vignette on the cover; headbands, initials, and tailpieces printed in blue. Copy No. 539, one of 2,800 copies on “Ivorine” vellum from Papeteries Boucher, numbered from 201 to 3,000. The total print run is limited to 3,000 copies: 30 on super-pearlescent Japanese paper, enhanced with an original watercolor and color and black-and-white plates; 170 on Van Gelder Holland paper with a black-and-white sequence; and 2,800 on “Ivorine” vellum, including this one. This collation corresponds exactly to the cataloged copies of the Piazza edition. An elegant publication by Piazza, featuring Calbet’s delicate illustrations in pastel tones, which complement this libertine novel—set in an idealized 18th-century Touraine—particularly well. A beautiful paperback copy in its original illustrated cover. The cover is slightly yellowed, with a few small marks and minor signs of wear; the spine and stitching are well preserved. The interior appears fresh.
